Kingdom Tower, now called “Jeddah Tower, ” is a planned skyscraper to built-in a 1km (3281 ft) building to make a world record of 1st 1KM building. Adrian Smith, an American architect, created the design of the “The Jeddah Tower” after “The Burj Khalifa” world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
The Saudi Arabian Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal was the creator and leader of the project. Al-Waleed Bin Talal is the chairman of KHC- Kingdom-Holding-Company which was one of the partners of JEC (Jeddah Economic Company) formed in 2009 for the development of Jeddah Tower and city. The Tower was planned to build in an area of 57 million square feet. As this tower was built in Jeddah’s industrial city, it comes with a lot of features like Four Season Hotels, Apartments, Office Space, and Tourist Attractions.
It is a Tri petal-shaped structure that has the highest observatory deck and hanging balcony, about 652 meters above the sea level. The cost estimation for the building is SR10 billion (US$10.23 billion) (preliminary). This city remains so hot in the summer season, so the exterior wall is made of low conductivity glass to reduce power use for air-conditioning. The tower building at such a height would require 80000 tons of steel. Construction of Jeddah Tower starts on April 1, 2013. In 2018 the tower construction was stopped due to labor issues and Saudi Arabian Purge. As a second chance, it was aimed to complete the tower in 2024.
