Shaivism saints in Tamil are known as “Nayanars” Their appealing emotional songs in Tamil were called ” Tevraram Stotras,” also known as Dravida Veda. Mahadev has pre-Vedic tribal origins, which is an amalgamation of various older non-Vedic and Vedic divinities. Until the attainment of Moksha, human beings are subject to rebirth. However, the Hindu view of life doesn’t preclude worldly pleasure: Karma and artha are recognized as ends in life though they are subordinated to the higher end of dharma. The drum is one of the attributes of Mahadev in his famous dancing representation known as Nataraja.
